IE7 Beta Available

I must admit that I still wonder what Dean Edwards is planning to do about the name of his javascript library??
But, irrelevant sidepoints aside - Microsoft have released the first beta of IE7, the long awaited upgrade which might make IE a browser fit to develop for. Or we can hope.
Downloads available from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/default.mspx for those who are subscribers.
We were promised PNG compatibility, tabs, a few bugs fixed and some CSS compatibility improvements. Did they measure up? There are several reviews across the web - you can read some of them here:
- Standards and CSS in IE, the announcement from IEBlog, the Microsoft Internet Explorer Weblog
- Internet Explorer 7 - first look, from Baekdal
- The mandatory Webmasterworld Thread
- That’s why its called a Beta, from Molly Holzschlag
- IE7 beta 1 release by Faruk Ate? at the KuraFire network
Interesting reading, all up. It looks like IE7 isn’t giving us as much standards support as we were hoping - but it is the first beta, so we shouldn’t ask for too much this early. (Some would say its already years late, but I’m not getting into that sort of discussion!)
